Charity Tandem Skydive with Genetic Alliance UK

Genetic Alliance UK is the national charity of over 150 patient organisations supporting all those affected by genetic conditions. Their aim is to improve the lives of people affected by genetic conditions by ensuring that high quality services and information are available to all who need them. Currently in the UK:

Over 28,000 babies are born with a genetic condition each year - 1 in every 25 babies born. Almost a third of babies born with a serious genetic condition die in childhood. Another third live with chronic ill-health or disability.

There are over 6000 recognised rare genetic conditions, estimated to affect over 3.5 million people.

Many serious genetic conditions are so rare that they have no name. It is estimated that as many as 50% of children with special needs have no definite diagnosis for their condition. Many of these children have severe physical and/or learning disabilities, as well as complex medical needs.

Many common diseases, including heart disease and some forms of cancer, have a significant genetic component. It is estimated that 6 out of 10 people are likely to develop a disease that is at least partially genetically determined by the age of 60.
